| Art can be many different things to different
people, however, most of us don't think about its therapeutic
qualities.   Art therapy is one of the fastest growing areas
of psychology today.   It is used in many cases where for
whatever reason, a person might have trouble expressing themselves
in a verbal manner. |

I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to
facilitate art sessions with The Delores Project, a shelter for homeless women in Denver, Colorado.
They come to Delores from all walks of life.   Some have college degrees, others
didn't finish high school.   I came to them thinking that I would be able
to teach them so much.   That I might be a bright spot in a sometimes
bleak existence.   Little did I know that they would teach me so much
more than I could ever hope to bring to them. |
| These are strong women.   They have survived some of the most horrendous
things imaginable, and not only survived it, but come out of it looking to
make their lives better and to grow from the experience.
|
| These are smart
women.   They know how to recognize the signs of eminent danger.
They know how to survive in a hostile environment that might sometimes be
their own homes.   They have learned how to seek help, and are
working to get themselves to a better place.   I admire these women for
the strength they represent.   I admire them for the sisterhood they
show to each other.

My desire is that by highlighting this project on my website,
The Delores Project
and its wonderful staff and volunteers might gain the much
needed recognition which they so richly deserve.
